In the beginning

How it started

First of all, I am Helen the needle felt artist and creator of In knots and stitches. The company name was created when I came out of hospital with stitches, and I was also crocheting at that time. The wool would be tangled and I would just have to laugh it off (a bad pun, I know). And the name stuck.

I drew pictures of characters I wanted to make and that's when I got back into needle felting again. My first character was a Mole in a Bowl (c), along with the many mushrooms and fungi that were being made at that time.

Inspirations

Nature is the inspiration for all of the needle felted creations, whether it be a framed portrait of a squirrel or a pet snail in a box. Each item is lovingly created and seem to develop their own personalities.

It doesn't matter if it is a picture or a sculpture, each one is unique as no two will ever be the same.

Supporting others

Workshops

Needle felting has helped me so much with my mental health and so I wanted to share that with others.

This year so far we have been fortunate to have been working with Anvil Alpacas of Durham, and continue to do so. The adult and children's workshops have proven popular particularly with meeting the alpacas. Who wouldn't want to meet them?

Hosting a workshop there is amazing as it is calming with perfect views of the fields around us and of course the alpacas and their other friends (sheep and chickens). A perfect way to do some needle felting and coming away all relaxed and proud of the work achieved.
